Before entering any greenhouse gas (GHG) data, establishing a well-defined boundary and identifying the emission inventory is essential. This initial setup complies with both the GHG Protocol and the ISO 14064 framework, ensuring your accounting process is robust and standards-compliant.
Overview
In Sustify.WORLD GHG Accounting version 1.0, the boundary and inventory setup has been organized into four key steps. These steps form the foundation of your GHG accounting process and must be completed before you proceed with data entry.
Step 1: Top-Level Settings
- Reporting Standard: Select the applicable reporting standard (e.g., GHG Protocol, ISO 14064).
- Organization Boundary Approach: Define your approach for setting the organizational boundary.
- Emission Factor (Scope 1 & Scope 2): Choose the appropriate emission factors for your direct (Scope 1) and indirect (Scope 2) emissions.
Step 2: Organization Boundary
- Entity and Facility Inclusion: Add your reporting company’s legal entities and individual facilities. This defines the operational scope of your GHG accounting.
Step 3: Emission Sources
- Identify Emission Sources: List all emission sources for the reporting company and its subsidiaries, entities, and facilities. This step ensures that all relevant sources of emissions are captured.
Step 4: Quantification Approach
- Define Quantification Methodology: Declare how each identified emission source will be quantified. This is crucial for ensuring that the calculations reflect the true environmental impact of your operations.
Key Parameters and Centralized Control
The boundary and inventory settings serve as the “cookie cutter” that shapes how data is input and processed throughout the platform. Because of its critical role in ensuring data integrity and consistency, only the Admin User, the Verifier, and the appointed Sustify.world Consultant are permitted to modify these settings.
Version Control
The final tab in the Boundary & Inventory module is Version Control. In the dynamic landscape of business operations—where mergers, acquisitions, or other organizational changes can alter your company’s structure—this feature allows you to record and manage changes to your boundary and inventory.
- Automatic Detection: The system is designed to detect changes in your organizational structure.
- Prompt Updates: Users will be prompted to update their Boundary & Inventory settings to ensure that the GHG accounting accurately reflects the current state of the business.
